ABOUT THE BRAND
A Beach Bunny is a girl whose fun and flirtatious confidence lights up a poolside bar in South Beach, exudes glamour on a yacht in St. Tropez or effortlessly looks fabulous as a mother walking the beach in Malibu with her kids. The company explains their target market by stating, “Whether in their early 20s or late 40s, college graduates or corporate VIPs, Beach Bunny is designed for couture-conscious women who are ahead of the curve. The brand’s flirty-fun attitude—daring, confident, independent and ripe with feminine allure—is a celebration of each woman’s own unique spirit.”
Beach Bunny Swimwear is known for their sexy and fun swimwear sported in their colourful ad campaigns featuring the world’s top models. The company was launched in 2004 in Orange Country, California by designer, Angela Chittenden. Angela is former swimsuit model and now supermom to two daughters and four stepdaughters. As a swimsuit model Angela developed her taste for swimsuits and noticed design flaws that needed innovation, she explains that, “None of them ever felt right…Either they were too conservative with too much coverage, or they weren’t very classy. There was nothing out there that was sexy and elegant. So I decided to design my own.”
Angela says she wanted to create “something that would let women show off their bodies, feel sexy and confident, glamorous, flirty and fun all at the same time.” Angela's styles are sexy, and lingerie-inspired, while her fabrics and finishings are extremely unique. Her designs never shy away from risk and her daring suits are what got her internationally recognized. Beach Bunny is made for women who do not follow trends, but rather, set them, and wants to make a big statement. Angela’s travels heavily influence her design aesthetic, something as simple as the colour of the bark on a tree in Belize, or the jewel tones in Dubai have inspired her swimsuit creations. Beach Bunny suits offer bold prints and exotic colours that are sure to catch attention, but they are also versatile enough to be mixed and matched. Beach Bunny even has a bridal collection, first modelled by Kate Upton, who mentioned in an interview that if she got married it would be on a beach in a bikini.
Though she admits that running her own luxury swimwear brand can be stressful, she loves her job, saying, “I feel like the luckiest person in the world, to be able to create something that celebrates women, their beauty and strength and personality, every day. This motivates me to work harder.” Angela creates swimsuits for all different ages, shapes and sizes. As a mother herself she wanted to create a line that both mothers and daughters could wear and stores where mothers could shop with their daughters. Angela revels, “I’m thrilled to see how much our audience has expanded. We’re seeing more mother-daughter pairs come into our store, buying matching suits. Beach Bunny Swimwear is for women of all ages.” Since bikini tops and bottoms are sold separately, the various pieces are able to hug every curve perfectly and gives the customer the freedom to choose the fit that suits them best.

Angela has no formal design training, but her intense passion shines through in her work. The suits are hand sewn and manufactured in the United States. Angela does not follow trends and wants her designs to highlight her customers’ individual flirty personalities. Angela sought the help of her father to work on the business and bookkeeping behind the company and he became the CFO Beach Bunny, while her sister handles the accounting for their wholesaling sector.
When Beach Bunny first appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, the magazine dedicated more pages of its issue to Angela’s designs than any other brand. Sports Illustrated models, like Kate Upton who appeared in Beach Bunny’s infamous Shipwrecked campaign (in which she helped to design the line), Candice Swanepoel, Irina Shayk, Rosie Huntington and Nina Agdal, as supermodels have helped to establish the brand as the epitome of swimwear for the beach-loving bombshell. Celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Fergie, Cheryl Tiegs and Cindy Crawford also took notice and helped to put the brand on the map. Media outlets including USA Today, Vogue, People, InStyle, E! and Extra were lining up to interview Angela about her innovative take on swimwear design.
